Honouring Cris Derksen (1981–2026)

This festival, we hold space to honour the extraordinary life and legacy of Cree-Mennonite cellist and composer Cris Derksen. Cris was originally scheduled to bring her powerful new album, The Visit, to our stage as part of her 2026-2027 national tour.

Following her sudden and tragic passing in May 2026, we join the national arts community in mourning a true musical trailblazer. While we deeply feel the absence of what would have been an unforgettable evening of music, we are honoured to have championed her vision. We invite our audiences to celebrate Cris by exploring her vibrant body of work.
