Strike, Dip, Spin

Strike, Dip, Spin, is a site-specific video installation using vogue dance as a queer intervention in public spaces. The work poses the voguing body as a metaphor for the politics of queer identities surviving in complex social terrains. The dance floor is a ceiling where bodies can be watched but remain untouched. It is a space for experiencing agency and resistance as bodies dance through improvised performance. Through femme-style movements, labouring bodies respond to ideas of identity performance and interrogate the role that culture plays in the construction and constitution of gender.

Presented in partnership with The New Gallery.
