Visual Art

Jolie Bird wraps objects. Although simple in technique, the careful wrapping of objects in thread requires a great deal of time and patience to perform. When ordinary, recognizable objects are preserved within a new fibrous skin, a metaphysical transformation occurs. They become fragile, sensual works removed from and yet affirming the familiar realm of the everyday. Now for the first time, these seemingly precious objects are installed outdoors where perhaps they will deteriorate or be removed, stolen or vandalized.

Jolie Bird received a Master of Fine Art in Craft from NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her work has been shown throughout Canada and the United States including In The Making: a group exhibition of Alberta College of Art + Design alumni, Fiberart International 2013: An exhibition of contemporary fibre art, and Fibreworks 2012: a biennial juried exhibition of Canadian fibre art. Bird was born in Ontario and currently resides in Calgary, Alberta.
