SLED ISLAND ANNOUNCES FULL FESTIVAL LINEUP AND SCHEDULE!

(CALGARY) The Sled Island Music and Arts Festival -- to be held at over 30 venues in Calgary, Alberta from June 24 - 27 -- is pleased to announce the full festival lineup and schedule.

Sled Island 2009's programming features a line-up of 250+ bands spanning the globe, proudly including over 120 from Alberta, 100+ from the rest of Canada and 32 international bands.  No other festival in Western Canada gives concert-goers the opportunity to see so many of the world's most compelling contemporary bands.  Not only that - the festival is also highly affordable at less than $25 a day.

Acts added to the Sled Island 2009 lineup include: Hip-hop icon Biz Markie, New York weirdo-pop act Japanther, Seattle-based post-hardcore band These Arms Are Snakes (with ex-members of Botch), Calgary legends the Ramblin' Ambassadors, rap visionary Gift of Gab (of Blackalicous-fame), Canadian indie-darlings Woodpigeon, Chad VanGaalen's new electro-project Black Mold, Montreal garage rocker Mark Sultan, Canadian punk legends SNFU, Edmonton favourites Whitey Houston, and many, many more.

Guest curator Colin Newman will be performing with his band Githead at Sled Island 2009. " Newman seems to have relocated the combination of sardonic intellectual wit and winning pop song craft that made Wire such an engaging (and influential) post punk prospect." - Andy Gill, The Independent

The festival has also extended itself to include a 5000 square foot day-long independent market (The Market Collective), a Sled Island-first dub-step show with internationally-renowned artists Excision and Dieselboy, the 6th Edition of the uber-popular Factory Party series, not to mention film and visual arts programs that constitute mini festivals in and of themselves. Sled Island 2009 is proud to be a self-contained argument against the notion that Calgary is lacking in culture.  Please refer to the Sled Island website for a comprehensive list of all the bands performing, a complete schedule, and ticket information.
