SLED ISLAND FESTIVAL RETURNS IN 2008! NOW ACCEPTING BAND SUBMISSIONS!

We are happy to announce the return of Sled Island Festival to Calgary this June! We’ve quietly been working hard since the end of last year’s festival and now are getting ready to release the juicy details. The 2008 edition promises to be even better than the very successful inaugural festival held last June. There has been significant growth in a number of aspects of the festival, and with internationally renowned curators, high profile talent and some exciting new venues, the experiences, sights and sounds that will fill Calgary’s downtown and Beltline are going to be memorable.

Band submissions are now open at www.sledisland.com! All genres are welcome – just click on the Artist Submission link on the front page.

2007’s Sled Island saw 96 bands in 16 venues around Calgary, 2 art shows and a debut film screening. Boredoms, Spoon, Cat Power and many more performed in unique and intimate spaces, creating singular performances of the highest caliber. All received fantastic reviews from local and national press, and set the bar high for 2008. We’re pretty sure we’ve managed to raise it even higher.

At 2:00 pm on Tuesday March 25 at Broken City, 613 11 Ave S.W, the Sled Island team will be announcing all the details, introducing our curators and kicking off the trip to Sled Island 2008. We’d love for you to join us!
