Sled Island Film, a component of the Sled Island Music and Arts Festival presents a festival of hot new independent feature length and short film World, Canadian, and Alberta Premiers from June 24 - 29, 2010. Sled Island Film highlights 12 of the 20 films screen at this year's festival:

Sled Island Festival to Grow with New Staff

 

Sled Island, one of North America’s fastest growing independent music and arts festivals, is excited to announce that it is in the process of hiring its first full-time staff member for the position of Executive Festival Director.  

 

Now in its fourth year, Sled Island has established itself as an important part of North America’s music scene, consistently showcasing some of the finest established and emerging musical talent from around the world and recently being recognized by listeners of CBC Radio 3 as one of the top 10 annual music festivals in Canada. 

 

Sled Island’s new Executive Festival Director will be responsible for continuing to build and expand on the annual four-day festival, which has previously brought together such acts as Spoon, Cat Power, Mogwai, RZA, Tren Brothers, Japandroids, Boredoms, Liars, Yo La Tengo, Broken Social Scene, Monotonix, Jonathan Richman, Wire and The Breeders, along with film, comedy and visual art. 

 

As noted by Sled Island founder, Zakary Pashak, the hiring of an Executive Festival Director will mark a significant step forward in the evolution of Sled Island, furthering its ability to celebrate culture and build community in Calgary, Canada. 

 

This year’s Sled Island will take place from June 30 – July 3, 2010 in Calgary, Canada and will feature more than 100 artists including Girl Talk, Ted Leo and The Pharmacists, Built To Spill, The Melvins, !!! and Les Savy Fav.

Sled Island Schedule Posted Online, All Ages Programming & Tickets on Sale Now!

 

The 4th annual Sled Island Music and Arts Festival is taking place June 30 to July 3 at multiple venues in Calgary.  This year's full festival lineup and schedule are posted online now at www.sledisland.com

 

The 2010 music festival will kick off with Deerhoof performing at the Central United Church on Wednesday June 30th.  Many of the festival headliners - Black Lips, The Melvins, The Thermals, F'd Up, GZA, No Age, etc - will be playing in intimate club venues across Calgary.There are several all-ages shows programmed which help fulfill Sled Island's mandate to foster our local scene and to provide access to arts and culture for people of all ages. The festival is working with every conceivable music space in Calgary to help create a sense of community in the downtown core.

 

Sled Island is made possible largely thanks to the support of wristband and ticket purchasers.  A limited number of single show tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door for a wide range of shows at Sled Island 2010. Prices range from $10 to $45 for single ticket purchases.

 

 Festival wristbands are available for $194 until June 15. After June 16 prices increase to $220. The Sled Island 4-day wristband offers access to all shows (subject to capacity), and guarantees entrance into both days of outdoor programming at Olympic Plaza and Sled Island Film from June 24 - 29. Buy your passes early and start planning the week at Sled Island!
